Why Attend School in Salt Lake City? Matson Lehtinen’s Opinion

As a University of Utah alumnus, Matson Lehtinen enjoys talking to prospective students about the many benefits of going to school in Salt Lake City, Utah. Here are just a few of Matson Lehtinen’s reasons that Salt Lake City is an attractive place to pursue higher education.

Transporation options. Owning, insuring, and driving a car can be extremely expensive, especially for students. Matson Lehtinen was pleased to find that the University of Utah and Salt Lake City in general are both very supportive of alternative transportation options. Between a high-quality and frequently-running bus system, the new TRAX light rail system that runs from downtown to the University, and a recent push to make the city more bike friendly, Matson Lehtinen contends that students can easily forgo owning a car.

Natural environment. Matson Lehtinen loves fishing and skiing, and enjoyed that opportunities to exerience nature abound both in Salt Lake City and nearby. Skiiers like Matson Lehtinen will find that beautiful slopes can be found just a short drive away at Alta, Snowbird, and Solitude, or in nearby Park City. A plethora of locations for hiking, fishing, and camping are available near campus, in the great open spaces of Wyoming and Idaho to the north, and in the incredible national parks like Snow Canyon and Moab in southern Utah.

Bustling city. Salt Lake City certainly isn’t New York or Los Angeles, but Matson Lehtinen found plenty to do while he was a student at the University of Utah. Countless local restaurants provide unique dining opportunities downtown, and top mustical artists as well as brand new bands frequent Salt Lake City’s many venues. For sports fans, a Utah Jazz basketball game can be a very fun outing, and the local football rivalry between the University of Utah and Brigham Young University always proves exciting.
